Fiji Law Society President in professional probe
Radio New Zealand International has noted the Fiji Law Society President, Dorsami Naidu, will appear before the Legal Services Commission on charges relating to professional conduct.
As the Legal Practitioners Decree declared membership of the Fiji Law Society voluntary, professional complaints are now heard by the Legal Services Commission. It is now the Commission’s responsibility to take carriage of complaints previously handled by the Fiji Law Society.
Chief Registrar of the High Court, Major Ana Rokomotoki will now refer complaints. In relation to Mr. Naidu, seven charges were originally brought against him, but only four are being currently actioned.
The remaining three complaints deal with alleged misconduct by a legal practitioner and the Commissioner, former High Court Judge John Conners has power to impose fines up to half a million Fiji dollars or the suspension of a practitioner’s practising certificate.
