Polynesian leaders form subregional alliance
Leaders of Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Niue, Samoa, American Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Tuvalu signed a memorandum of understanding recently following a meeting in Apia, Samoa, reported the Pacific Island News Network.
The new subregional group formed at the meeting aims to help member nations develop economically and democratically while being sensitive to its diverse cultures and traditions.
The next meeting will take place in the Cook Islands in 2012 before the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Summit.
