South Pacific Lawyers' Association Support for PacLII

5 December 2022

On 5 December 2022, SPLA wrote to Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for International Development and the Pacific to express the Association’s support for the continued operation of the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII).

SPLA’s member organisations are unanimous in their support for the continuation of PacLII, which facilitates the administration of and access to justice, underpins the delivery of legal services, supports the development of Pacific jurisprudence, and promotes transparency, accountability and good governance.

The Chair of SPLA, Dr Gordon Hughes wrote to the Ministers to convey letters of support for PacLII from the Honourable Simon Robert Kofe, Tuvalu’s Minister of Justice, Communication and Foreign Affairs, the American Samoa Bar Association, Cook Islands Law Society, Fiji Law Society, Kiribati Law Society, Marshall Islands Law Society, New Zealand Law Society (in partnership with the Pacific Lawyers Association of New Zealand), Samoa Law Society, Solomon Islands Bar Association, Tonga Law Society and Vanuatu Law Society.
